Admin - This is your Vimeo OTT backend where you edit your videos, sites, Products, and subscriptions. It's the main hub of activity and all of your seller promotional tools.
API - Application Programming Interface, is a set of functions, routines, and tools that allow anyone to incorporate aspects of a platform into their own software. In the case of Vimeo OTT, our API allows you to leverage our tools for serving video online to your audience.
Aspect ratio - A simple way of describing the width of a video compared to its height, typically expressed in a ratio. Older televisions were generally four units wide for every three units high, so they are considered to have a 4:3 ratio. The HD video standard is defined as 16:9, and there are many other common ratios listed here.
Compression - Prior to uploading your videos to Vimeo OTT, you must prepare them in the correct format. This is called compression. Here are our specs.
Conversion rates - The percentage of users that take a desired action. The sales conversion on a seller’s Dashboard refers to the percentage of site visitors who end up purchasing content.
Dashboard - The Dashboard is the first thing you will see upon logging in to your Vimeo OTT account. It is the main hub of activity and sales of your site. You can view: daily sales, average unit price, total units sold, and gross revenue.
Downloading - Transferring data from the internet to a device. When a customer purchases a purchase Product, they are able to download it so they can view it offline.
DRM - an abbreviation for Digital Rights Management, DRM is a term describing a series of technologies that are applied to a digital file that prevent access to that file across devices. Generally intended to prevent piracy, although there is no evidence to support that it works.
EST - Electronic Sell Through, the digital equivalent of selling a DVD of a film. Customers have access to the content in perpetuity across all media known or unknown in the universe.
Payout - This is what we pay you each month, a sum of your Vimeo OTT earnings after we deduct our fees. We pay you once a month.
Products - Creating Products on Vimeo OTT is like putting together your ideal digital DVD. What are you selling? How much do you want to sell it for? Maybe it’s one video or a bundle of videos and bonus content. Create one, two, or more products to sell on your site.
Screeners - Free streaming-only copies of your video to send to press, partners, and friends. They are time-sensitive and you control how long someone has access to the video.
Statements - Statements are a report of your monthly sales. All gross sales, fee schedules, and geographic breakdown are included in your statements. Reports will be available to view on the web, or you can download PDF or CSV reports with all transaction details.
Streaming - Viewing a video over the internet without having to download it. SVOD networks and rentals videos are only available via streaming.
Subscriptions - Customers are charged a monthly or annual fee for unlimited streaming of your videos. Video content is not downloadable and it is the expectation that the seller would be adding new content each month. Read more.
Subtitles - Captions that translate a videos narrative in another language. Vimeo OTT allows you to upload SRT and VTT files with your videos.
SVOD - Subscription Video On Demand, think Netflix. Customers pay a monthly fee for access to a library of content. Now stop thinking about Netflix and start thinking about running your own business with VHX Subscriptions!
Transactions - A transaction equals a sale, subscription, redemption, or fulfillment of your content on Vimeo OTT. It's basically whenever a customer gets access to your videos to watch.
Transcoding - The process by which video files are converted into their Internet-ready versions. We create multiple versions of your video so that it works well across all devices and connection speeds.
TVOD - Transactional Video On Demand, the pay-per-view structure of digital video. It generally means you pay for access to content and you have access to it for a limited time (if it’s a rental) or forever (if it’s a purchase.)
VAT - Value Added Tax. Businesses selling digital goods must pay VAT according to a customer's location. This policy was mainly aimed at large companies avoiding higher taxes, but unfortunately, it also puts a burden on independent creators who sell to customers in Europe.
