Free trials allow you to set a length of 3*, 7, 14, or 30 days of free access to your content. This gives customers an opportunity to sample some of your content and can be a winning strategy as over two-thirds of free trial sign-ups convert into paying subscribers.
*If you have an Amazon Fire TV branded app, note that Fire TV in-app purchases do not support 3-day free trials. If you select 3-day trials, Amazon users would be prompted to purchase instead.
How free trials work
When a customer subscribes using a free trial, they enter their payment information.
Once the trial ends they will be charged the monthly or annual price and their billing cycle will begin. If you have set up a promo and the customer applies the promo code, the discount will be applied after the free trial period ends.
They can cancel at any time before the trial ends to avoid charges.
⚠️Important: A $1 holding charge will be processed on the customer's card. These transactions will be reversed immediately and should disappear from accounts within 24 hours. The reason for this charge is to help prevent fraud. This hold will always be in USD, regardless if multi-currency is enabled.
Set up a free trial
- First, you need to have a Subscription Product created.
- Navigate to Products at the top of your admin page.
- Select your Subscription Product which will take you to the details page.
- Under the Pricing Tab is the Free Trials drop-down menu. Choose the time period you want to have. If you do not want to have Free Trials on, choose Off.
⚠️Note: You will not be charged the $1 price for a subscriber in a free trial. You will be charged once the customer is paying for the plan.
Free trials and branded apps
If you are an Enterprise seller with custom branded apps, take note that making updates to the free trial on your site does not apply updates to free trials on branded apps.
